Communities 4 Work

We provide a short term service that is geared to suit the needs of the individual.

This service is provided by Torfaen & Blaenau Gwent Mind, working with GAVO and Communities for Work in Blaenau Gwent.

The service recognises that some people have mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and low confidence, which prohibit them from gaining employment.  We provide a short term service that is geared to suit the needs of the individual.

Participants are identified by their Work Mentor as needing help with their mental health before they can actively look for work.  They are then referred to our Short Term Support Service (STSS) for an assessment of their needs.  We can provide support and guidance to help manage and maintain their mental health road to recovery through developing knowledge and coping strategies.

The STSS provides a safe environment for people to discuss their mental health issues and concerns with the aim of gaining confidence in the workplace.

If further support is needed, participants can be signposted to relevant services such as counselling, Active Monitoring, online courses, Citizens Advice, housing support/tenancy support, or the mental health drop-in service provided by T&BG Mind.

Once the participant feels that they are in better control of their mental wellbeing they are referred back to their Work Mentor to continue their support to achieve the skills and qualifications needed to gain employment and future goals.
